If you threw your Vote for Pedro t-shirt out about six years ago and never looked back, it seems you may have acted prematurely. Despite the fact that cult film Napoleon Dynamite came out all the way back in 2004 (and arguably ceased to be funny about a year after that), the entire cast is about to reassemble for a new TV spin-off. What better opportunity, then, for Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite to embark on a DJ tour of Australia? You just can’t make this shit up.
If the press release inthemix received this afternoon is to be believed, the actor responsible for that classic portrayal of an almost-mute Mexican and the ridiculous amount of novelty merchandise it spawned, Efren Ramirez, has set his sights firmly on the decks. But no, he won’t be performing under his real name – the tour will see Ramirez DJ “in full Pedro character”.
Apparently, Pedro’s been cultivating his DJing talent for a while now, having used his “passion for electronic dance music” to play at “packed out clubs and festivals” across America. After all, girls only want boyfriends who have good skills.
Now the only question (okay, perhaps not the only one) is whether this character-turned-DJ has what it takes to outclass the 2010 tour from The Mighty Boosh’s Naboo?
Pedro Australian tour dates:
Thursday April 5 – Fanny’s Nightclub, Newcastle
Friday April 6 – Espy, Melbourne
Saturday April 7 – Cobra Club, Sydney
Friday April 13 – The Bakery, Perth
