This week has seen inthemix take on an illustrious addition to our ranks, with Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello on board as Guest Editor. The outspoken Swede has been keeping things ticking over here while he tours Brazil alongside little brother AN21 under the Size Records banner.

So far he’s written about his influences – from Depeche Mode to Kraftwerk to Erick Morillo – and offered some words of wisdom for aspiring producers. We also handed over the Letter From The Editor spot in our Weekly Newsletter to Angello, where he gave a droll insight into why life on the road isn’t all fun and games. In case it hasn’t hit your inbox just yet, you can check out the Guest Editor’s Letter below.

And in the unlikely case you’ve missed it, there’s that other business of our biggest prize ever: a Swedish House Mafia party at your place. Head here to find out how to score bragging rights for life.

Letter From The (Guest) Editor Steve Angello

I had a good friend of mine who was like, “I should’ve been a DJ.” So I said, “Why don’t you come on tour with me and travel around for two weeks?” So he came with me in the summer. We did 16 shows in 12 days. He had to go to the hospital because he was sick. He said, “Okay, I’m never going to tell you it’s an easy lifestyle.”

I drink less now. I can’t come home hungover ‘cause I have a two-year-old daughter who wants to play, and a second one on the way. Obviously it changes. I don’t do as many shows to make sure I don’t burn out. I went to a big doctor’s check-up two weeks ago – the first one I’d done in almost ten years, and I was scared to death. I was shitting my pants. I thought: “He’s going to tell me I’m dying.” I live a very unhealthy lifestyle. You travel, you eat crap food, you go up and down in weight, you drink alcohol, you don’t sleep at night. Then after doing that for like 12 years, you think, I just have to be dying. It’s just the natural way to think. But I was fine. So that was a relief.

I do over 200 emails a day, I have a record label with seven artists, there’s Swedish House Mafia: this is a full-on, 24/7 operation. Plus I have to travel and be a Dad. Of course it could be one million times worse…but it’s not easy. My mum didn’t like what she did until she couldn’t work anymore. I don’t forget that I am so blessed to love what I do.
