The Gorillaz hotly anticipated new album, ‘Demon Days’, is set for release in May, and to celebrate the group of cartoon misfits have launched their very own ‘Search for a Star’ competition. It’s a worldwide search, and is said to be the first ever online-only talent competition, with the eventual winner to be given the opportunity to collaborate with the Gorillaz.
The search is on now, and entries can comprise anything from animations, to musical pieces, sketches, film scenes, voice-overs and more. The only real determining factor is that the submission is humorous, dark, edgy, juvenile, insightful or thought provoking. Clips should be no longer than about a minute long.
Band members Murdoc, 2D, Noodle and Russel will be selecting their favourites each week, which will then be put into a shortlist of the top ten for that week. They’ll be put up for viewing, then it’ll be left to the online audience to vote. From there, each weekly winner will go forward to the finals, with the public to vote and select the eventual winner in June. You’re able to enter as many times as you like.
The final winner will receive their own room at the Gorillaz Kong Studios, decorated by the Kong Studios Decorators, where you’ll be able to showcase your genius on a website that gets an unprecedented amount of traffic. In addition, the winner will also get the opportunity to collaborate with Gorillaz in a way they see fit.
