Miami Festival promoters Ultra Music are to host a 5,000 capacity outdoor festival in New York’s Central Park this September featuring just 8 mainstream big name DJs.

Joining Paul Oakenfold, Erick Morillo and Danny Tenaglia at the Saturday afternoon Manhattan rave are the Chemical Brothers (live) and local spinners David Waxman, Boris, Kevens and David Morales, all of whom will be spread across three arenas.

“It is very exciting to have the opportunity to bring ULTRA to the people of New York,” Ultra chief Russell Faibisch says on the accompanying website, “we are committed to producing the highest quality outdoor dance event that NY has ever seen.”

Ultra’s decision to host a dance party in New York is likely to have improved the spirits of David Morales, who told Skrufff recently that the vibe in Manhattan was ‘terrible’.

“There is none as far as I’m concerned, there’s nothing exciting going on at all,” the legendary DJ said last December. “The last time that New York was really happening was when Michael Alig was around until the mid nineties, then it just fell off. There’s nowhere in New York that I really want to play at,” he complained.
