Former So Solid Crew member, Carl Morgan was found guilty of shooting love rival Colin Scarlett last Friday and sentenced to life in jail with a recommendation he serve a minimum of thirty years.
Morgan, The 24 year old rap producer who worked on 2001 chart-topper ‘21 Seconds’ allegedly shot Scarlett in Tooting, South London last year after ongoing conflicts over Scarlett’s partner who his also the mother of Morgan’s two children. The jury however failed to reach a verdict on the same charge faced by rapper Megaman – name Dwayne Vincent – who will face a retrial next March.
Scarlett was shot in the neck, hand and chest, firing five shots from his own gun before collapsing.
Says the family of the victim: “We’re happy with the verdict. It won’t bring him back of course. We were worried about what he [Morgan] would get – you hear about people getting very short sentences. But 30 years is good.”
Judge Brian Barker who passed the sentence said, “Gun use is the scourge of our streets and causes misery and distress. You expected eye witnesses would be cowed into silence and that ploy very nearly succeeded.”
