Depeche Mode are certainly a crazy bunch. Currently on tour around world and flying high on the release of their much talked about album ‘Playing the Angel’, the trio have announced they will follow up this recent bout of success with a cover of their song ‘Suffer well’ in an entirely made up language called Simlish.
For those lacking prowess in computer games, Simlish is a language used by the characters in ‘The Sims’ video games. It is said to be a cross between Ukrainian and a Philipino dialect called Tagalog.
“This unprecedented collaboration brings together two celebrated entertainment icons and gives millions of Sims fans the opportunity to hear one of their favourite bands sing in Simlish, a language that appeals directly to them,” said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Music Marketing at Electronic Arts (EA).
Meanwhile lead singer Dave Gahan shares, “Depeche Mode has always been open to new ways of sharing our music, but re-recording a Simlish-language version of ‘Suffer Well’ just sounded completely bizarre. Of course, that’s why we couldn’t resist doing it.”
