Ministry Of Sound Radio unveiled details of their radically revised program schedule this week, which sees the station switching to a new weekly format as the first step in a major new expansion.

Presenters hosting live weekly shows include Anne Savage, Mutiny and Chew The Fat alongside a new series of Ministry themed shows including Hed Kandi, Data Records and Switch Sessions, with the Skrufff Show also going weekly, every Tuesday from 18.00-20.00.

Station chief Rob Sharp said the new schedule is intended to offer listeners more consistency as the station prepares to go live via digital TV later this year.

“Ministry of Sound Radio is all about great dance music from all genres including credible and commercial styles embracing the music of Ministry of Sound as a club and record label plus the music that is being played on dance floors across the world,” said Rob, “I hope that the station is perceived as offering something for everyone who loves dance music’.

“The new vision of the station is also focused on digital opportunities,” he continued, “We are considering broadcasting the station via mobile phones and satellite TV, and are currently awaiting a confirmed launch date to broadcast on Sky Digital. That will give us access to over 8 million homes in the UK plus coverage in Europe.”

Rob helped launch the station in September 2000 (with an opening set from Paul Oakenfold) and admitted he’s seen more than a few DJs come and go as the station has developed.

“Lottie went onto Radio One after a stint at the station presenting the Missdemeanours Show with Caroline Prothero. David Dunne is now the presenter of Hed Kandi on Galaxy, Tayo went to Kiss and Radio 1 and DJ Paulette is now on Radio FG,” said Rob.

“There have been loads who have cut their teeth at Ministry of Sound Radio, it’s always been a hotbed for emerging dance music radio talent and I hope some of our existing presenters get opportunities in the future from the BBC, Emap or Gcap,” he added.

He also admitted that one or two bizarre incidents had happened over the years, both positive and decidedly negative.

“The female presenters do get fans but nothing really strange; no one has turned up at the station, though we had an LA porn star come into the station once,” he laughed,

“And one of our DJs got arrested for trying to glass our Head of Sponsorship at a launch party,” he added, ” He was a nice bloke when he was sober and did a great show but we unfortunately had to fire him because of that.”

The Skrufff Show goes weekly every Tuesday (18.00-20.00 GMT+1) with loads more upfront new (rocking-electro-disco-hip-tech) tunes and live guests. We’ll also be introducing weekly competitions with album giveaways; tune in on April 4.
