Nominations for the UK’s most prestigious music award have been announced, with Hot Chip, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke and ex-Lamb singer Lou Rhodes included in the list. As to be expected, the Arctic Monkeys received a nod for their debut album, as did futuristic rock three-piece Muse, for their fourth LP. Past winners of the Mercury Music Prize include Franz Ferdinand and Dizzee Rascal, and with a £20,000 cheque the reward, it’s something many British bands and solo artists aspire towards.
2006 nominations are:
Arctic Monkeys – Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not
Muse – Black Holes And Revelations
Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan – Ballad Of The Broken Seas
Zoe Rahman – Melting Pot
Editors – The Back Room
Lou Rhodes – Beloved One
Guillemots – Through The Windowpane
Scritti Politti – White Bread, Black Beer
Richard Hawley – Coles Corner
Sway – This Is My Demo
Hot Chip – The Warning
Thom Yorke – The Eraser
