Dan Whitford from Australian electro punk-funk trio Cut Copy chatted to Skrufff this week about their new mix CD for Fabric and revealed that their increasing success is significantly changing their fanbase.

“Initially it was the fashion/ people-in-the-know crowd, the early adopters and people interested in whatever’s cool and new. But as time’s gone on we’ve developed a much more diverse crowd which is I suppose what you’d expect,” he mused,

“I remember being particularly spun out at one show because at the end of our performance this massive 6 foot four musclebound guy wanted to give me a hug and I just thought ‘this is bizarre’. This is the same kind of guy who would have pushed you up against the lockers at high school and given you a hard time whereas now he wants to be my best friend.”

The Melbourne based threesome recently toured the States alongside performers including Mylo, Bloc Party and Franz Ferdinand though remain committed to staying in Australia.

Cut Copy’s Fabric Live 29 is out now on Fabric.
