Dave Clarke, Judge Jules and Princess Superstar are joining the Skrufff team as regular contributors, sharing opinions, news and views about the club scene, club life and Skrufff’s regular diet of sex, make-up and music.

The self-made trio of highly experienced individuals have expert knowledge of their own particular niches and are amongst dance culture’s sharpest and most opinionated outspoken characters though Dave immediately stressed he’ll be avoiding commenting on trends.

“You know what, I never have give a fig about ‘trends’; trends are always led by journalists who are already reporting on something that has happened, I’m more interested in making something happen,” he sniffed, immediately qualifying it with a robust analysis of the British media’s recent claim that raving has returned.

“If there is a renaissance in rave then that’s actually a good thing politically because it says to the major clubs ‘fuck you and your trance knob-ends, we want to do it ourselves because you are not representing our interests’, Dave continued.

“I like music with a fuck you attitude, when that becomes a trend then I’ll get worried,” he added.

Judge Jules told Skrufff he’s equally opposed to trend-spotting, explaining ‘I’ve been playing upbeat, call them trance if you like, tracks with both rave and electro influences for ages, but I’m always reluctant to call that a ‘trend’. The strength of dance is in its diversity,” before demolishing the national press’ ‘dance not dead’ story of the last couple of weeks.

“Dance music never disappeared, it just needs national media stories to spur journalists into life,” he said.

“A recent particularly violent clash between police and free partygoers brought the free party ‘rave’ scene back into the focus of the media, but the free party scene has been going on unabated for years. Similarly the street gunfight in Ibiza brought the island back to the attention of the press- even though the island’s been packed solid for as long as anyone can remember,” he pointed out.

New Yorker Princess Superstar revealed she’s currently most passionate about European electro uber-producers Justice, Digitalism and Vitalic as well as New York DFA starlets the Juan McClean and Shit Robot! though like Dave said she remains alarmed by trance and ‘those hideous shower shoes’.

“I’ve also got a problem with people whose jaws move side to side and eyes bugging out who want to ‘talk business with me during my DJ set, who are obviously on high doses of E,” the Princess added, “and anyone making ‘requests’ while I DJ.”
