Princess Superstar smashed into Britain’s pop charts at number 3 this week, with her Exceeder Vs PS bootleg Perfect and celebrated in typically regal fashion she told Skrufff.
“I was at home, cleaning my apartment when I heard the news, it was really unceremonious,” she revealed, “I was like “Oh the life of the glamorous pop star! Why can’t I get this crap off my floor?’ ”
The New York electro diva also revealed she narrowly escaped death last week in a serious car crash in India.
“It was awful, we ran into a truck on the highway going 60 miles an hour, at night time,” she said, “ It was dark and there were no streetlights so I couldn’t see the damage, I only felt the wetness of blood and felt the pain- it was terrifying. But my companion, Nusi (a top Berlin club promoter) saved the day and pulled me out the car and got an ambulance and we were OK,” she said.
Following the accident she received six stitches in her left leg and continues to have problems bending her right knee, she said though agreed the incident also gave her valuable insights.
“It puts everything into perspective, definitely” she laughed, “I know understand that nothing really matters when you’ve had a top 3 hit.”
Occasional Superstar collaborator Larry Tee hailed her success plus the fact that no less than 8 electro flavoured club songs featured in this week’s top 40.
“I think a year after the NME (and the general media) announced dance music’s death, for there to be 8 spots on the BBC top 40 taken by electro-house or electro-rock acts, is highly significant,” said Larry. “I’ve always thought that talk of a genre’s demise is a good sign it’s about to return with a vengeance, ever since the media declared rap as dead in 1980.”
The electroclash pioneer also admitted to feeling ‘a little vindication’ about the continuing rise of rock/dance/ post electroclash music though stressed he’d long learned to ignore critics in favour of following his own instincts and tastes.
“Acknowledging the haters doesn’t do anything positive for anyone especially yourself,” said Larry.
“The only thing worse than being criticized is playing something you don’t really believe in or are uninspired by just for money. To me that is a slower more painful series of little deaths,” he said.
