Vinyl evangelist Danny Howells chatted to Skrufff this week about the rapidly escalating demise of turntables in clubs and revealed he’s concerned he’ll soon be forced to give up records altogether.
“I’m still playing 60/70% vinyl, however I’m getting more and more pissed off with the quantity of clubs who either neglect their decks (which these days seem to be used primarily as ash-trays) or don’t have decks at all,” said Danny.
“As a DJ who enjoys mixing, with both vinyl and CD, I don’t want to be forced to turn to software which will in turn take away one of my main joys,” he complained.
His comments coincided with the publication of a new survey in DJ Magazine which revealed that 90% of DJs now own CD decks compared to just 65% traditional turntables.
“CDs are great because you can do so much more with them than you can with vinyl,” James Zabiela told DJ.
“The Pioneer CDJ-1000 was a technological revolution and now they are installed in almost every club in the world,” he added.
