The annual International Dance Music Awards (IDMAs) took place recently in Miami, with ‘electro’ well and truly the order of the night in the winner’s circle. Dutch producer Fedde Le Grande scooped the pool, taking home a massive 3 awards for Best Underground Dance Track, Best Breaks/Electro Track and Best Breakthrough Solo Artist. Now wait up a minute… ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’ considered an underground track? You have to consider this is America, where country, pop and RnB are the only styles given any sort of major radio and TV support!
Australia’s Dirty South was nominated in the Best Alternative/Rock Dance Track for his lauded remix of Evermore’s ‘It’s Too Late’, but was unfortunately beaten out on the night by Gabriel & Dresden with their single ‘Dangerous Power’. Gabriel & Dresden also picked up the award for Best American DJ. Paul Van Dyk took out the Best European DJ title, while Tiesto dominated the Best Global DJ category, and also took home Best Full Length DJ Mix CD for his ‘In Search Of Sunrise Vol 5’ release. Armin Van Buuren managed two awards as well, Best Radio Mix Show and Best CD Compilation, both for his ‘A State Of Trance’ series.
