Indonesian authorities sentenced Nick Taylor to three months and ten days in jail this week, after the Australian electro/ trance DJ was found guilty of being a drug user. Denpasar District Court judge Nyoman Gede Wirya praised Nick for being ‘honest and remorseful’ during his trial, which followed his arrest for possessing 0.2 grams of cocaine at a private after-party on the island in June.
“We find the suspect Nicholas Bernard Taylor, stated above, has been proven legally and convincingly guilty of being as an addicted adult who did not report himself to the authorities,” the Judge told the Court.
“He was polite and frankly admitted his crime, he felt sorry and promised not to do it again. He intends to seek medical treatment for his addiction after he has served his punishment, and he has never been in jail before,” he added.
Nick is expected to be released on September 21, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
Meanwhile in India, the parents of jailed Irish backpacker Patrick Maluzzo stepped up their campaign to free their 30 year old son, telling the Times they’re selling their house to raise funds to fight the case. Patrick was sentenced to 10 years for pot possession three years ago in a case Fair Trails Abroad recently described as a “very grave miscarriage of justice”, and is struggling to cope in his hellhole Indian jail, his mother told the Times.
“Ma, I’m petrified of the future . . . I’m innocent and I hope to be free on appeal but my name is forever going to be linked with this,” he wrote in a letter sent to his Mother recently, “I’m sick of it, hot, squashed in like sardines, lying about on a stone floor, men sweating, burping, farting, shitting, puking, spitting tobacco, pissing in front of me all day long . . . What if I’m not free? I don’t feel like fighting any more.”
