It is safe to say there is no club in the world like Sven Vath’s labour of love Cocoon. Located in Germany’s otherwise buttoned-down business centre Frankfurt, its state-of-the-art excess is the stuff of clubbing legend.

In November’s Future Issue, Mixmag named Cocoon one of the most futuristic clubs in the world. “It took 3deluxe – one of Germany’s hottest design agencies – two years to work out the concept,” they write. “The result is an audio-visual-sensual orgy that is to ordinary clubs what acid tabs are to Haribo.” One of the club’s main stars is its visual ‘membrane’ wall, which pulses and warps along to the music.

In a typically engaging interview with Daddy Sven, Lithuanian dance music website djscene.lt asked the DJ how he came up with “such a heavenly place.”

“I am a connoisseur, you know, I like nice things in the world,” Vath replies. “I always thought that our music has so much to offer and the message of our music is so full of positive and good things, talking about tolerance, love, peace. Maybe it sounds cheesy, but it’s true. Our music has a lot of potential to protect people. And I have always wanted to connect people not only musically, but also to create places where people come and enjoy lifestyle. The main focus is on the music, but there other good things you can combine it with. Such as design, good lighting, performances, architecture, good food, atmosphere, ambience…”

After much musing, he gets down to the heart of it.

“My mission and idea was to create the perfect place where people could come early in the evening, have really nice dinner in a very nice atmosphere, a place where people think they are somewhere else, which takes them on other planet. Actually, we simply say we ‘cocoon’ people in our club. We isolate them from the world outside.”

Got a few thousand dollars spare? Cocoon is waiting to isolate you from the world outside and the pain of your jetlag.
