Icelandic virtuosos Sigur Rós have fans eagerly awaiting the follow-up to their 2005 album Takk, and now there’s a bit more news to fuel the appetite.
Singer Jónsi Þór Birgisson has remained tight-lipped, but Pitchfork uncovered an article in Icelandic newspaper Fréttablaðið in which drummer Orri Páll Dýrason drops a few teasers about the forthcoming long player.
The band has called in producer Mark ‘Flood’ Ellis, who has previously collaborated with U2, Nine Inch Nails and Smashing Pumpkins, to do some prep work on the album. “We’re gonna try working with him for two weeks and see where it takes us,” Dýrason revealed.
As Sigur Rós devotees will know, the five-piece swear by their studio-in-a-swimming-pool Sundlaugin, but this time round the milieu is changed. “We want to take a break from Sundlaugin,” the drummer continued. “We will be renting a house in downtown Reykjavík and record[ing] the album there.”
Excitement at fever pitch? You could bide the time by picking up the Sigur Rós concert DVD, Heima. Here’s the trailer…
