Saddled with the (self-coined) new-rave tag since exploding onto the world stage, Klaxons have been doing their darndest to prove there’s more to them than scuzzy synths and colourful hoodies.

They are labelling their upcoming sophomore album simply “extreme”.

When speaking with XFM, guitarist Simon Taylor shed some light on what to expect from the successor to Myths Of The Future.

“We wanna make something that’s bigger and softer and louder and lo-fi and heavier produced – just lots of contradictions. I think it’s gonna be like the last record but swollen.”

Taylor also revealed the band’s influences are ever-expanding.

“We’ve been listening to a lot of European prog music and dubstep and dance and folk. A huge broad variety of things really. There’s one track we’ve been playing in soundcheck, it’s this massive prog opus.”

Swollen, extreme, loud, heavy, lo-fi…everything but new-ravey, it seems.

Watch the kids mosh their little hearts out to Klaxons performing Golden Skans at Glastonbury 2007.
