The nominees for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards have been announced, with Kanye West and Amy Winehouse the clear frontrunners.
The Best Electronic/Dance Album category has its share of heavyweights in contention too, including Justice, The Chemical Brothers and Tiesto.
Finally making headlines for her music again, Winehouse has nabbed six nominations, including Best New Artist (despite debuting in 2003?). She’s surpassed only by Kanye West, who couldn’t be cranky about his whopping eight nominations. His Graduation will duke it out with Winehouse’s Back To Black for Album Of The Year.
“Can someone wake her up around six and tell her?” said comedian George Lopez when announcing Winehouse’s nominations at an LA function. Ho ho ho.
The Best Electronic/Dance album is between Justice’s †, Chemical Brothers’ We Are The Night, Tiesto’s Elements Of Life, LCD Soundsystem’s Sound Of Silver and We Are Pilots’ Shiny Toy Guns. Given this is the kind of category that never makes the telecast, you might have to go searching for the result come February 10 2008.
The field is a little stranger for Best Dance Recording (Single). Justice and Chemical Brothers are back in there – for D.A.N.C.E. and Do It Again respectively – but there’s some stiff competition from the oh-so-ravetastic Rhianna and Justin Timberlake. Again, don’t expect to hear all about the winner on E! News.
