Having proven one of the most dexterous DJs out there, James Zabiela has honed his production skills on new EP Perserverance.
The four-tracker sees Zabiela toy with more melodic elements than his previous releases, with Human and title track Perserverance displaying a warmer house sound. In contrast, Phaser Fire is a glitchier affair, reminiscent of his earlier productions.
Perhaps most surprising, though, is the appearance of Zabiela’s own vocals on each track.
“I would never dream of performing these tracks live, they’re not full vocal songs,” he told website Underground Vibez. “I just thought they made a nice addition to the tracks, and what better way to convey a thought or feeling than to actually say it.”
“I’m a bit of a control freak and I wanted the solo effort to be just that: solo,” he continued. “I worked with people in the past and with the exception of Nic Fanciulli [as One + One] I find it harder to partner up in the studio.”
Here’s the radio edit of Perserverance – with curiously compelling fighter plane film-clip attached.
