After his less-than-competent sets on the 2006 Parklife tour, we weren’t holding very high hopes for the DJ career of former New Order bassist Peter Hook. Now a video has turned up that reveals the ol’ boy has been pretend-DJing all along.
The clip, taken during Hook’s ‘performance’ on the MTV Free Your Mind stage at 2006’s Exit Festival, seems like a legit DJ set (without headphones, mind you!) – until the camera zooms in on the man’s hands during a mix. It’s blatantly obvious he’s just twiddling away to a pre-recorded set. Full marks for looking busy, though!

haha! Like that is any surpise. He was my highlight of the day at Parklife. The sound was so bad at every stage and less than stella performances from others. As well as the dust and the beginnings of the fluoro brigade! At least we could have a laugh at Hook's antics!!!

Oh my. Seriously, no DJ 'twiddles' that much. Especially considering not once does he actually touch a turntable to go between the tracks even though the track changes and like the statement above says - he's not even got any headphones (unless they are invisible and only he can see them) He only touches the EQs, not once does he touch the faders This really bugs me - for all the DJs out there trying to cut a break who have sincere talent yet someone like this gets handed a brilliant gig like Exit festival on a silver platter ... /end rant

Despite how amazingly bad he was at parklife this is way too suss.Why would you play a shit pre-recorded set? Either MTV have shafted him with dodgy editing or someone else has done the dodge with this posting on youtube. who knows but i doubt this performance was as quite depicted here...I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't even the music he was playing at the time...that is how suss it looks....

The funny thing is that DJing isn't exactly rocket science, so i don't know why he feels he has to pre-record stuff. Assuming of course he is the one that pre-records it.

i think its fucking hilarious, ive never seen anyone jump around like that when they are mixing (and with headphones on) just goes to show you its who you know - but at least he got to play there or should i say be on stage at a big event - ha ha but no all in all he should not have been there, could have given some up and coming unknown dj a shot.....

Well it just goes to show that a name can attract numbers, or can it? This will be a good experiment in what media attention influences the act. I am glad I didn't dish out money for park life to see this guy, and I am glad that he didn't play at earthcore. Nice one! I am definitely not supporting such "artists" as they are called. Check out Luke Math if you want a good DJ, even Dave Spoon. There is such an array of talented main stream Aussie DJs just waiting to hit MTV haha!

Who really cares alot of DJs are shit and still get gigs, atleast Hooky already has a name to trade on... sif ppl go for the music. Mind you even with this average pre-recorded mix is better than some of the celeb clone DJs out there.

who's a dick? it always amazes me that when people don't know what they're talking about it rarely stops them from saying something anyway. he's simply playing with the eq to pull stuff from the tracks - i can't stand the music and i find this the most inane type of djing but for fuck sake he's doing exactly what he's claiming to be doing... the reason you don't see him changing discs is because of the editing of the video (do you fail to notice how many different camera angles there were in that short clip?) the only fake things about this clip are the sensationalist headline, the screwed up editing and the nonsense whining of those commenting without any basis of fact. main achievement/ridiculous truth concerning the 'dancing' apparently he's tee-total. imagine those moves stone cold sober - THAT’S the real shocker!
