Over a thousand Brits snapped up tickets for Serbia’s massively popular Exit Festival last week, just hours after organisers announced that this year’s event will take place between 10th-13th July.

An estimated 10,000 British attended the 4-night festival in a fortress last year, up from 3,000 the previous year, though Festival publicist Rajko Bozic told Skrufff overall ticket sales have a finite limit. “The fortress can host 50 000 people maximum and we can’t go above that capacity – the safety and security of the visitors is our first priority,” he stressed. “Guests from Serbia, South East Europe, the UK or other countries are equally important to us, but once all the tickets are sold we can’t issue anymore. We advise people to book in advance to avoid disappointment. The Exit campsite also has limited capacity so it is best to book in advance. We will also be putting details other approved accommodation information on the Exit website (Exitfest.org) in the next few weeks but it’s limited,” he said.

The Novi Sad based publicist also downplayed the significance of current unrest in Serbia linked to escalating political uncertainty over the future of Kosovo, declaring ‘the truth is that people here are confused by the Kosovo crisis’. “Sometimes it’s really hard to imagine a solution that will satisfy all sides, but, what is much more important, and what people here want before anything else is to live in a stable society,” he claimed. “None of the possible developments in the Kosovo crisis will influence the festival. I would suggest anybody concerned should ask someone who has already visited Exit and ask him or her what it is like to be in Novi Sad during the festival. I don’t think we need stronger propaganda,” he laughed.

Rajko also updated Skrufff on the latest developments affecting one of the Fortress’ seriously damaged ramparts which was partially dismantled weeks about by unauthorised builders. “We’re glad to report that the investigation is yielding some results – The Director of the local Institute for the Preservation and Protection of Historical Monuments has been arrested,” said Rajko. “He is accused of forging a fake document that would justify the devastation of the fortress. It’s still not clear what actually happened but we are doing what we can to keep the issue in the public focus,” he said.
