With the Future Music Festival just weeks away, ITM got on the phone to Sven Vath to see what he has in store for the tour. During the chat, the DJ disclosed an exciting piece of news: the theme for Cocoon’s 2008 Ibiza residency.

Cocoon has built a reputation for theming its Ibiza seasons at Amnesia, with 2007 promoted as the Freak Show. As well as serving as an excuse for Vath, Richie Hawtin and Ricardo Villalobos to dress up in crazy regalia, the theme permeates the club’s look, the promotional material and even the punters’ fashion choices. Vath is effusive in his praise for last season, but he’s equally hyped about the year to come.

“We have a big theme coming up for the ninth season,” he told us. “You are the first person I will tell this. This year is called Disco Invaders. It’s Bootsy Collins meets Studio 54 meets minimal techno ravers. So it’s going to be a really crazy outfit this year. Ricardo and Richie – imagine! Richie Hawtin as Bootsy Collins!

“It’s going to be really big. We’re going to land in a UFO on the roof of Amnesia and we’re going to invade the club with our laser-disco-minimal sound.”
