Summer Sonic is the other Japanese festival that falls near our own Splendour In The Grass. Similar to Fuji Rock, experience tells us that some of this starry line-up may also be appearing at the Byron Bay love-in…
Stretched across two days on dual sites in Osaka and Tokyo, Summer Sonic hosted Bloc Party, The Horrors, Arctic Monkeys and Klaxons in 2007. And yes, detectives among us, that quartet of headliners was also booked for Splendour (Klaxons, though, pulled the plug). So the theory holds up!
This year, the organisers have secured some impressive top-tier names, including The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, The Verve, Justice and Coldplay. However, there’s plenty to love (and speculate on) in the smaller print, too. Consider the likes of Vampire Weekend, The Wombats and New Young Pony Club ... all bands that wouldn’t look out of place on a Splendour bill.
And here’s the full line-up to muse over. Summer Sonic happens on the weekend of Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 August.

It has already been confirmed by future that the Prodigy will be touring here around that time so that one is certainly possible.
