Swedish wonderkid John Dahlback unveiled details of his new album Winners & Fools this week, introducing poppier tracks to his house and techno template. The 14 track album includes tracks with both strings (Houses Of The Archipelago) and melodic vocals (I Had A Feeling) plus more tech-house style tracks along the lines of his 2005 debut album Man From The Fall.

Chatting to Skrufff at the time, the then 19 year old producer said he made tracks for techno and house DJs, though emphasized his determination to keep his options open. “I love sitting in a studio and I do it from nine to five every day, just making new tracks and exploring new things. I don’t want to be trapped inside a tech house box or a deep house box, I want to mix styles together,” said John.

“I want to be like a secret guy who produces great underground tracks, so if anything I want to be a star in the underground community, because I feel like yeah, that’s my thing,” he added. “I’m not really into these commercial things. I like to be underground.”

Winners & Losers is out in April on Pickadoll Records.

While I love John, some of his newer productions are certainly not underground e.g. his Better Day remix for Dirty South
