Veteran DJs dismiss breaks and minimal

Matthew ‘Bushwacka’ Benjamim distanced himself aggressively from the breaks scene he was once so closely tied with this week, telling 3DWorld he hadn’t heard an interesting tune in ages. “That scene was really cool but it didn’t move on,” the Layo & Bushwacka star said. “There are only a lot of diehard specialist ‘I only listen to one kind of music’ fans out there who would disagree, but I’ve heard it all before. When something new comes along, I’ll be the first person to go, ‘Wow, this is new and exciting’. But I think it died, basically,” he said.

Minimal maestro Steve Bug similarly moved to distance himself from the genre he’s most associated with, on an interview with US portal Westword.com, declaring, “I think that minimal got a little overrated. A lot of people just play linear minimal nowadays and nothing else, and I think it can be a little boring after a while.”

Meanwhile, veteran eclectic type Tom Middleton took the opposite approach in an interview promoting his new compilation for Renaissance, telling 3D World he deliberately avoided new genres for old. “I could have put current minimal or electro or maximal – whatever you wanna call these different genres – on there. I could have included these more ‘fashionable’ styles and anthems, but I think they date quickly.”

Yea same with gui borrato, he said something about his music not being minimal or that minimal was over in the scene mag however some sets of his are influenced with that minimal sound no doubt and there are many minimal realeases stil popular on beatport for example. I think the explosion with minimal over seas has kinda turned dj's off as it has kind of commercialized.
