Minimal DJ Magda has called for clubbers to respect DJs and artists more after thieves targeted her as she performed at a gig in historic Central German city of Erfurt. “On Saturday night, May 2nd, my laptop bag was stolen from Centrum Club in Erfurt,” said Magda in a statement issued on her label Minus’ website. “I am deeply sad and disappointed to know that something like this could happen, especially in the DJ booth, the one place where things should be safe. I feel like I have been stripped of the one thing that is closest to my heart,” she declared. “We are all in this together and we must respect each other, otherwise there is no point.”

The robbery came a month after thieves boldly stole the hard-drive of Matthew Dear as he played live at the Galapagos Art Space in New York City. Local magazine Brooklyn Vegan said the star spotted the theft two hours into his set when he got a message on his computer saying that his hard disk drive was unplugged, though the thief got away. Reports on the web said Magda’s mentor Richie Hawtin was also robbed last November, losing a customized Xone:62 mixer when thieves broke into his Berlin studio, a fate which befell Berlin duo the Martini Bros two years ago.

Chatting about the theft at their PrenzLauer Berg studio last year, Mike and Cle admitted the problem has been getting worse. “Our studio was robbed last year and it really hurt, we loved our machines,” said Cle. “And of course, they only stole the good stuff, the Moogs, for example. They robbed Jazzanova who have a studio in the same complex one month later too. These days it’s become quite usual that people get robbed here,” Mike added. “Especially in this area which is full of alternative people and new Berliners who come from perhaps little villages where it’s so safe they can leave their doors open even when they go on holiday.”
