Romania 'the new Ibiza?'

Space Ibiza icon Steve Lawler recently predicted another mega successful summer for the soon to start Ibiza season, suggesting the newly installed 6am club curfew is unlikely to affect the island’s vibe, though simultaneously raved about the fast growing club scene on the shores of the Black Sea. “Romania is 10 times better than anywhere in the world right now,” the Birmingham house star told the Daily Record. “I can’t believe I’m saying this but it actually could be the new Ibiza.”

London based Romanian DJ Claudia Cazacu broadly agreed, telling Skrufff ‘at the moment, I can actually say Romania is paradise’. “At the seaside, you have some of the best clubs in Europe; everything is high class there and people really know how to have a good time plus we have the after parties on the beach. During the summer months Romania also enjoys an influx at the world best DJs.”

Claudia pointed out that ‘VIP’ bottle service style clubbing is also available alongside ultra cheap techno parties, though Romania based Gigolo artist The Model was more circumspect. “I can’t really see a direct connection between Romania and Ibiza, though some common threads exist,” he said. “Certainly loads of international DJs are being invited on a weekly basis and the country and club scene are both developing generally; lessons from Ibiza can definitely be learnt.”

The Model said Romanians also remain welcoming to Ibiza loving clubbers from Italy, despite polls in Italy this week revealing that 61% regard Romanians as “barely likeable or not likeable at all” (while 81% – four in five-loathed gypsies). “People here in Romania view the majority of Italians visitors a little ironically, mainly because many are lured here by economic and sexual opportunities with attractive young Romanian females,” he explained. “So people tend to mock the Italians – with justification I might add’.

“But generally there is definitely no predetermined prejudice towards any foreigners whatsoever, beyond traditional sporting animosities,” he said. “Romanians are quite tolerant to other nationalities,” the Model added. “Even in the Second World War, village populations would not slaughter airplane pilots when they were shot down or Jews; they were always given humane treatment. So this is true with Italians today too,” he said,
