41 year old father of two Bryn Llewelyn, was found dead inside a dance marquee at Gatecrasher’s Summer Sound System festival last weekend, hours after Pete Tong and Armand Van Helden DJed in the arena. Following the discovery of Mr Llewelyn’s body at 2am on Sunday morning, police issued a note around the site saying ‘while we are not at this stage linking the death to the misuse of drugs, intelligence sources, police and security operators have identified and arrested a number of drug dealers within the event’, though this week said they were awaiting autopsy results.
The tragedy occurred just hours before the site was deluged by torrential rain, forcing organisers to close the main stage and cancel performances from live acts including Hot Chip and event headliners the Chemical Brothers. “Every effort was made to enable The Chemical Brothers and Hot Chip sets to go ahead but it was with great disappointment that they could not proceed with their performances,” Gatecrasher said in a statement posted on their site after the event. “Gatecrasher and the artists would like to apologise for the disappointment caused to festival-goers. All other stages remained unaffected,” they added.
The Chemicals subsequently explained that their production crew had been fully prepared for the show to go ahead until circumstances made conditions too hazardous. “The stage was not safe due to the extreme weather conditions and particularly constant rain which was blowing onto the stage by the non-prevailing wind. Unfortunately we were unable to relocate to a tent due to crowd safety concerns,” Tom and Ed said. “We regret letting down the people that had come to see us,” the pair added. “In 14 years of playing live shows we have never been in a position where it has been impossible to play a show due to weather.”
