Full Moon madness party alert

Britain’s Foreign Office have issued an official travel warning to holidaymakers to stay away from Thailand’s Full Moon parties, specifically singling out Haadrin Beach as particularly dangerous.

“There have been a number of incidents in Koh Phangan in 2008 where western tourists have been victims of vicious unprovoked assaults by gangs. These attacks are increasingly common around the time of the Full Moon Parties and generally occur late at night in the vicinity of bars in Haad Rin,” the Foreign Office warn. “You are advised be extremely careful when walking in this area at any time, especially after dark and if possible avoid it altogether.”

The alert came just over a year after Sussex police chief Inspector Andy Parr spoke out about links between violence and the cycle of the moon revealing his force encounters significant extra crime every full moon. “I compared a graph of full moons and a graph of last year’s violent crimes and there is a trend,” Inspector Parr told the Independent. “People tend to be more aggressive.”

Speaking to the Mail at the same time he anticipated being mocked and stressed ‘with each full moon the number of disturbances recorded increased significantly.’ “I’m aware that this is just one of many things that can influence public disorder but if you speak to ambulance staff they will tell you exactly the same,” he continued. “It may be dismissed as an old wives’ tale but there’s plenty of other research to suggest that the moon has an impact on human behavioural patterns.”

I dont really think its to do with the full moon per se..It's more to do with criminal thai' trying to take advantage of tourists, and they know that theres more toursits for the full moon parties..

This is very true. When I used to work at a club we used to step up our security as we used to get more fights breaking out than per usual. We didn't need data to know this. Just from our past experiences

coming from somebody who works in a club you do notice the weekends when there is a full moon. They're way more violent. Just last month month a guy got attacked with a tire iron outside my work on a full moon weekend and there's always fights.

I was on haad rin beach for new years 'full moon' party. It wasn't a full moon, but it was very much violent and horrid. This had much less to do with crazy thai gangs and much more to do with offensively drunk british tourists picking fights with anything that moves , or if it didn't move, kick it... I knew it would be a tad dodgey, but phwoar....
