Graham Gold still think Mixmag are 'c#nts'

Iconic British DJ Graham Gold chatted to Skrufff recently about emigrating to live on Thailand’s Full Moon Party island Koh Phan Ghan three months ago, revealing that 25 years into his career he remains sensitive about criticism. The one time Kiss FM personality hilariously branded Mixmag journalists ‘c**ts unfit to lick his shoes’ last year after they mocked his long running London club Peach. He admitted he remains unforgiving towards them for describing him as ‘huffy like a BIG GIRL’ on their letters page.

“Sadly I am a softie, and I take things to heart and care what people think about me; I wish I didn’t; Thank God I am not a superstar, I would never hack it,” Graham told Skrufff. “They were cunts – end off story,” he roared. “They never came to my gigs or Peach, yet I KNEW how awesome those nights were and the work I put into the show on Kiss to make it the best program on the radio and how committed I have always been to this great scene we are all a part of,” he raged. “I KNOW if I play a shit set, trust me, and it didn’t happen very often – and today it never happens because I always play both alcohol free and clean. But if you do this job, there will always be people who want to slag you off. I read your Skrufff article about Tiesto the other week, he’s right – we are all human and if we don’t use Ableton or some other software, sometimes there can be mistakes. Fuck, even Lewis Hamilton fucks up.”

Mixmag managing editor (and minimal/electro-tech DJ and producer) James Mowbray adopted a slightly more conciliatory tone following Graham’s latest outburst, telling Skrufff; “we don’t bear any ill will whatsoever towards Graham Gold. In fact, when Mixmag was owned by (publishing company) EMAP, we shared our office with Kiss FM and Graham would come in late at night to record his show,” James added. “So we used to leave out a box of all our crappy, unwanted promos for him to rifle through, in case he needed some new tunes. The Sharp Boys used to benefit from this service as well, if I remember correctly. Am I going to regret this?! Hahahahaha!” he laughed.

Graham Gold is a deadset legend. I found my love for raving at Peach back in 1998, where Graham would come and greet the punters lining up at the start of the night. Peach remains the one that got away - best club night I have ever been to but has now sadly ended. Saw Tiesto, Armin, '00' Fleming, Ferry so many great acts before they were big names. Graham Gold and the Peach crew almost single handedly created the Dutch trance scene in the UK and were then f"cked over when the scene outgrew them. Watch out for his lad Ben Gold too - class producer!
