Ever since Ed Banger mainman Busy P (aka Pedro Winter) dropped the bombshell that Daft Punk are back in the studio working on new music exclusively to inthemix in May we’ve kept a pretty close watch on his media activity. Some see him simply as a master marketer, able to manipulate music fans and the press into hanging on his every word… but when you’re as connected as he is you’re going to have a lot of rather insightful information to impart.
In our latest edition of ‘Winter Watch’ we’ve been surprised to find Pedro telling US hipster website Pitchfork that he got a call recently from uber-producer Rick Rubin, who was just getting in touch to let him know he was a fan of the label. Rubin has famously helmed the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ most successful albums, so it could add weight to reports that Justice will be producing the next LP from Anthony Keidis and co.
More bizarre, however, was Winter’s announcement that Justice had turned down an offer from pop-grandma Madonna to play support on her ‘Sticky & Sweet’ world tour. “I had to explain to Madonna why Justice doesn’t want to support her on tour. It’s crazy,” Pedro mused after being asked what he first does when he gets to the office in the morning. I usually just have some toast, but his routine sounds cool as well.
