A study conducted in the UK has found crack-addled warbler Amy Winehouse tops the list of people most likely to appear in Britain’s nightmares. The survey was conducted by Travelodge and saw 3,500 respondents asked which celebrity or politician popped up most frequently in their bad dreams at the moment.
You’d think the figureheads of worldwide issues like the economic downturn, global warming or terrorism would figure highly – Bush or Bin Laden perhaps? – but instead poor Amy ranked at the top of the poll, closely followed by perennial Goth whipping boy Marilyn Manson.
The first non-music identity to feature was British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, with Amy’s pal and fellow crackhead Pete Doherty close behind. Also in the top 5, Romanian pop-duo The Cheeky Girls (I had to Google them to find out who they were… and trust me, you don’t want to know).
It’s quite startling to consider the power media has over the public’s perception of a personality. Of course Winehouse does herself no favours in the positive-PR department; smoking crack on video, punching audience members in the face, talking to baby mice, walking the streets in her underwear… but is she really Freddie Kruger incarnate?
