As one of the most hyped duos in electronic music it’s only natural that people want to know the tools of Justice’s trade, perhaps in an effort to emulate their success. When first starting out, budding producers will often dip their toes into the water with some of the more rudimentary software packages around, like Fruity Loops, Reason, or Mac’s popular GarageBand program.
In a recent interview with Pitchfork, Justice let everyone in on a little secret; they produce all their music, including their critically acclaimed 2007 debut album †, on GarageBand. “It’s amazing,” Xavier de Rosnay said. “A lot of people think it’s bullshit when we say we use GarageBand, but it’s actually an amazing tool.”
Speaking with a noted industry insider, ITM got the feeling the Justice boys were simply having a laugh by saying they use GarageBand to produce their tracks. “Yes, you can make music like that in GarageBand,” our unnamed source commented. “But why would you? The type of editing needed to come up with music like theirs is harder to do in something like GarageBand than [with software] more developed. I can hear sounds that utilise tricks in better, more complex editing software.”
It begs the question; would Justice intentionally spread falsities on their production technique to keep the style biters at bay? Or, as one rather astute ITMer pointed out below, are they on the Apple payroll to talk GarageBand up?

I've also read they use Cubase, they start writing the tracks in GB then move it over there for some in depth editing

they use a range full STOP!

Sorry. I don't believe that for a minute.

Its not what you use, but rather how you use it. Still... I dont think garage band is their final production software tool. If apple had them on their payroll, im pretty sure they'd be plugging Logic, not something that comes free with macs.

"I've also read they use Cubase, they start writing the tracks in GB then move it over there for some in depth editing " - that doesn't make much sense, as putting a GB file into cubase would be a pain in the ass.. would be very easy for them to open it in logic though as they come straight across. Apple does use people like Charles Webster to market their Logic product, but this doesn't have the markings of an Apple marketing campaign.. I'd be leaning towards they use GB early in the process and they're just having a laugh..

yea this is old news they've been using GB and (more so) Cubase for a while now
