A 24 year old man has been shot dead inside London Bridge superclub SE One last Saturday night (October 4), at a house music event presented by Bobby and Steve. Police launched a man-hunt and cordoned off streets around the arches venue for over 24 hours following the killing, and said the victim had been shot from close range as he stood with a group of friends inside the venue, around 5.30am.
“We know that the club was still busy at the time of the murder and there will have been a number of witnesses to the murder and events that have preceded it,” investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Adnan Qureshi told the BBC. “Naturally when shots were fired the crowd dispersed and many left the scene.”
Masters At Work star Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez had been due to headline the night though pulled out due to illness, his publicists told Skrufff. Ironically the New York deep house legend grew up in the notoriously tough Brooklyn neighbourhood of Sunset Park and, chatting to Skrufff last year, recalled being regularly exposed to violence and shootings during the 80s.
“One of the reasons I got into music was because many of my people were either killed, stabbed, in jail or doing life for killing people,” said Kenny. “That’s what was going on then, and if you were presented with certain situations you had to defend yourself. The kids I went to high school with didn’t have a career; they sold drugs, then they got caught up. I didn’t want to be just another one of them.”
