Elder statesmen of synth-rock Depeche Mode have announced plans for a worldwide ‘Tour Of The Universe 2009’. Kicking off in Israel on 10 May, the band plans to visit 28 cities across 22 countries – and we’re hoping Australia is on that itinerary. It may be a stretch though, given the UK is only getting one show, at London’s multi-million dollar complex 02 Arena.
A new Depeche Mode album is due in April 2009, their first since 2005’s Playing The Angel. That record spawned a lucrative world tour in 2006, selling 1.8 million tickets for 87 shows. We didn’t get a look-in that time, but you don’t use a title like ‘Tour Of The Universe 2009’ without stirring some excitement…

I really hope they make it to Australia but I doubt they will.

Ah so they AREN'T on the V Festival bill - as loosely rumoured! Indeed, Worldwide Tour Of The Universe 2009 surely HAS TO incorporate Australia. Even IF they only play one gig... but to visit a few states (esp. QLD) would be ridiculously cool! 8)

V-Festival would have been a good setting to see them. Oh well, as long as we get a tour.
