Frankie Knuckles branded internet rumours that he’s recently had a leg amputated as ‘scuttle-butt’ this week, explaining instead that doctors cut off his foot. Writing in a detailed posting on Defected Records’ online forum, the legendary house star explained how he’d broken his right foot ten years ago though returned to work before his foot recovered fully, leading him to develop serious bone disease osteomialitis.
“What was inevitable came to fruition on July 3rd. I didn’t lose my leg but I did lose my foot. It was necessary because the disease was beginning to travel up my leg, threatening my heart,” he explained. “I didn’t have a problem losing my foot. After all, I still have another. But I did have a problem losing my life. This is the only one I have,” he added.
Adding that he’s ‘an intensely private individual who doesn’t take kindly to having to explain himself,’ he said he felt ‘violated and disrespected’ by the incorrect rumour. Meanwhile in Europe, DJ Vadim’s partner Yarah aka Captain Love Bubble revealed that the Ninja Tunes artist has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer (ocular Melanoma/choroidal melanoma’).
“Please take your time out to light him a candle and think about him in the most positive colorful light, starting NOW!!!” she wrote (in a blog message posted on a Czech website. “Shower him with LOVE!!!! Telepathically, spiritually, verbally in every way. I can’t help but feel anger and frustration, as it’s so hard to accept that this has happened to such a good man!!! Not only someone so extremely talented!!! But someone so healthy, so young, so fit? Someone so kind, so loving, so funny? I hope everyday that I’ll wake up and it’s all been a bad dream,” she added.
Press reports said Vadim has since responded positively to treatment. With an Australian visit scheduled across NYE/NYD it’s unclear at the moment how this will affect his tour.
