Bloc Party fake it at awards show

Australia-bound indie heroes Bloc Party have whipped up a shit-storm after they made no secret of miming a performance at Brazil’s equivalent of the MTV Awards (the VMBs). Indeed, they positively revelled in faking it.

‘Performing’ Talons and Banquet, frontman Kele Okereke let the backing track play, only occasionally feigning singing. His bandmates followed suit, paying their instruments scant attention and having a grand old romp instead.

It’s all rather amusing to watch – although the audience in the auditorium thought otherwise and booed the band throughout. Whether the guys are boozed, bored or unhappy at being asked to mime (conjecture only), it’s unlikely this is the Bloc Party we’ll be seeing in November.

Have a chuckle at this clip of Bloc Party pretend-playing Banquet at the VMBs.

Meh, bands always mime at these sort of shows, at least Bloc Party have the balls to take the piss out of it, rather than pretending to be something they're not. Good on them for having fun.

A band mimed at an Awards ceremony??? This is News??? Whatever next - DJs make mixes using software instead of vinyl? A person takes dru9s at a rave??? Politician abuses power and/or tells lies??? :)

Good on them, these events don't let the bands perform live to cut back costs and create the 'ideal' performance. Anyone who knows Bloc Party knows that what was played then is straight from the original CD. They're not trying to make it look real. Awesome.
