Dizzee Rascal wants to be prime minister

Clearly impressed with Barack Obama’s historic win in the US election this week, grime posterboy and recent Australian visitor Dizzee Rascal has revealed he’s got his sights set on the UK’s top job… maybe.

Interviewed by the BBC’s flagship current affairs program Newsnight, Dizzee was asked “why don’t you run for office?” after remarking he didn’t really care about any of the current UK political parties. “See, that’s a very good idea,” he replied. “I might have to do that one day. Dizzee Rascal for prime minister, yeah!”

Having scored the UK’s longest running #1 single from an independent artist this year for his Calvin Harris collab Dance Wiv Me, Dizzee would surely have the backing of Britain’s youth in a run for office, but his earlier admission of “I don’t know if I care” about UK politics might hinder his chances.

Dizzee puts Obama’s win down to him embracing urban culture. “I don’t think he could have won it without hip hop,” he remarked. “Hip hop is what encouraged the youth to get involved in voting and making the place better. And he’s the first president to embrace it.”

rowandix! i see the substance to the article. i just dont like the tangent that it was taken on when it begins to imply what would happen if dizzie seriously run! oh and on dizzie's view that he got the presidancy because he 'embraced' hip hop. id be more inclined to say his political party utilized it as a political vehicle and medium. thats enough smart sounding shit. in the end, its an amazing and great change for both America and globe. GO OBAMA!

come on stu! The substance is there, even if it isnt the focus. He's right about Obama. The amount of raps he's been mentioned in in the past year is rediculous. And it seemed to have a big effect.
