The Roots announced that they will be retiring from touring effective March, 2009. ?uestlove, drummer and founding member of the world renowned hip hop band, announced the decision before a recent show in Chicago.
It’s reported that the Philadelphia group are set to become the house band on NBC talk show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Fallon is set to replace Conan O’Brien as the new host of Late Night, with O’Brien replacing Jay Leno on the Tonight Show.
The Roots are known for their non-stop touring regime, and this decision looks set to put their schedule on hold for the first time in 18 years. However, The Roots will not rule out touring completely. Plans are underway for the second annual Roots Picnic festival to happen in mid-2009, where the band will perform.
The Roots will tour Australia this summer as part of the Good Vibrations festival. It might be the last time we see them down under for a while, so make sure you get along to see them if you’re a fan!
