Could it be true… has James Murphy reached the end of the line with his trailblazing live band project LCD Soundsystem? If comments their guitarist Al Doyle made to BBC 6 in the UK recently are to be believed, the band is now “on permanent hold”.
It was only a few weeks ago that Murphy – the LCD project’s oft-admired frontman and the brains behind the DFA label – made public his intentions of making a ‘classic rock’ album, and Doyle has now added further fuel to the fires of speculation.
“I don’t think James is going to do anything more under that [LCD Soundsystem] name,” Doyle – also a member of Hot Chip – said when interviewed by BBC 6. “I think he’d like to do something with the same personnel possibly next year.”
LCD Soundsystem undertook their debut live tour of Australia earlier this year as part of the Big Day Out, and Doyle will be back down under with the full Hot Chip live band in tow early in 2009 for the very same festival tour.
