Tickets went on sale for the UK’s acclaimed alternative festival Glade last week, just as organisers announced they’re seeking a brand new site where they can make ‘some proper noise’. Glade chief Nick Ladd blamed unsympathetic bureaucrats for forcing them out of their Berkshire home of the past 5 years, the Wasing Estate, though said they’ve already found a number of alternative sites to host the hugely successful alternative dance event.

“It was never gonna’ be easy putting on a fat party in the middle of West Berkshire – but ultimately it was the late night sound restrictions and the way West Berkshire council supported a very small of minority of local complainants against the wishes of the vast majority of local people who loved us being there,” Nick told Skrufff. “Dance music has gotta’ be loud – not insane loony loud – but enough to be able to feel the bass and get fully immersed in the hypnotic experience of the beats,” he pointed out.

“The final straw came when one complainant challenged our license renewal for 2009 – the public representations came in and they were 37 in support of the festival and zero – not one – in support of the challenge to the renewal of the license – yet the council still went ahead with the review – so we decided to start looking for a new home,” he explained.

Nick said they’d actively thought about taking a year’s break because of the credit crunch though confirmed that 2009’s event will definitely be happening, between Thursday 16th – Sunday 19th July, though will be a more ‘intimate’ gathering. “We have already found a couple of perfect new venues – we’ll decide by the New Year – there’s no rush. Our requirements are that the location is an idyllic piece of English countryside where we can have it large late and loud,” he said.

“People still need to have a good time, get away from it all and uplift themselves – we have got different offers for cheaper tickets and special bulk deals to try and make it as accessible as possible to everyone – there is a student ticket for £99, which is pretty good for a 4 day camping event,” he said. “We’re gonna’ put on a wicked party.”
