Coachella line-up announced

California’s legendary desert festival Coachella has predictably pulled in the heavyweight players to fill out its three days of sunstroked madness in 2009.

Friday night is headed by the not-cheap-to-book Paul McCartney, with Leonard Cohen, Morrissey and Franz Ferdinand filling out the top-tier. Saturday takes a leaf out of V Festival Australia’s book, putting glam-rockers The Killers at the top of the bill. Organisers have taken a gamble with Amy Winehouse, who hasn’t put in a convincing festival performance in some time – let alone to a Coachella-sized crowd. That said, she’s surrendered the crack-pipe, so there might be hope yet.

The Sunday closing slot is reserved for iconic acts, and in 2009 it’ll be The Cure. No less exciting is the addition of My Bloody Valentine and Throbbing Gristle, making the final day pretty stellar. As expected, the line-up goes deep with the kind of bands we’re used to seeing lead festivals: The Black Keys, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio, Paul Weller and a whole host more.

On the dance side of thins it’s a cornucopia of top class talent across the three days. The Crystal Method, Switch, The Presets, Gui Boratto, Crookers, MSTRKRFT, Groove Armada, M.A.N.D.Y, Supermayer… and that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival happens at Empire Polo Club, California, from 17-19 April. Here’s the line-up in all its alphabetical glory:
