Indeed, one for the ‘what the’ file; noted US gangster rapper and a man rarely seen without a blunt in his hand, Snoop Dogg has announced he’s officially converted to the Nation Of Islam in an appearance at the religion’s Saviour’s Day event in Chicago.

Speaking publicly at the religious gathering which took place on February 27th and 28th, Snoop explained that by converting to the controversial faith he was “doing what’s right and representing what’s right. I’m an advocate for peace, I’ve been in the peace movement ever since I’ve been making music.”

With a chequered past that includes criminal charges for weapons and drugs, Snoop described himself as the “leader of the hip-hop community” at the event and suggested that he wasn’t new to the religion. “I’m already in the Nation,” he said during Saviour’s Day. “That’s why I’m here.”
