Although lauded as the ‘king of nuskool breaks’ earlier in his career, credited with popularising the emerging sound in the late 90s alongside Tayo and Rennie Pilgrem, in recent years Adam Freeland has sought to distance himself from the now-stagnant genre as much as possible. Relocating from the UK to America was obviously the catalyst he needed to knuckle down on a brand new album project.
Cope™ is the long awaited follow-up to his acclaimed 2003 debut Now & Them, and it’s set for release in the UK on April 8. He’s roped in all manner of interesting guest stars for the crossover LP, obviously making a bunch of new friends in his hometown of Los Angeles. Featuring on the action packed guestlist you’ll find Brody Dalle of The Distillers, Joey Santiago of the Pixies, Twiggy Ramirez of Marilyn Manson, Jerry Casale of Devo and even Tommy Lee of Motley Crue. The album was produced by Marine Parade’s newest star Alex Metric, and was mixed by Alex Greggs of South Rakkas Crew.
Freeland previewed his new live show at the SXSW music conference in Austin, Texas, last week, and was clearly happy with the response. “Played our first live shows with the band,” Freeland posted to Twitter overnight. “The reaction was way beyond my expectation. We slayed!” They’ll head on a short tour of the UK in April, fingers crossed for a visit to Australia with the full live band sometime soon as well!
