There’s something strange afoot in the land of musicians and tattoo parlours right now… just a day after we reported on N.E.R.D frontman Pharrell Williams having his sleeves of ink lasered off, Canada’s reigning prince of prog Deadmau5 has been snapped sporting a brand new piece of art. And it takes up a good sized chunk of his neck, no less!
Beatportal had the pic of Deadmau5 – aka Joel Zimmerman – sent through to them this week, and although they’re not able to confirm whether the tattoo is in fact permanent (just in case it’s, umm, henna or something?), it has raised some rather interesting discussion on the blog.
The green and garish piece is, clearly, a space invader, made famous by the 1978 video game of the same name. However, Beatportal have intimated that Deadmau5 may end up regretting his newest marking as it bears a striking resemblance to Frenchman Joachim Garraud’s logo. But wouldn’t that be because Garraud is also a space invaders fan?
Whether Zimmerman was aware of Garraud’s logo or not, it’s a pretty safe bet he had set out to honour the video game and not the keytar sporting French electro house producer. We don’t think he’d be all that concerned of people misunderstanding his intentions, and if he is bothered by it he sure as hell isn’t going to admit it!
