When speaking with Skruff about the upcoming Ibiza season, Pacha chief Danny Whittle admitted that, though the Ibiza Town superclub is expecting tough trading conditions in 2009, they have no plans to scale back on VIP facilities or anything else. “Sure our profits may be down this year but we can’t afford to lower our standards,” said Danny. “Pacha prides itself in being able to host young kids who manage to blag the guestlist and not buy a drink, alongside the guy who spends 10k (£10,000) on a VIP table and every one else in between. That’s what we do and that’s what we will continue to do,” he pledged.
The Ibiza Town club swings into full summer mode in June with Erick Morillo launching his usual Wednesday weekly party on June 3 with Steve Angello, while the Swedish star takes over Mondays from June 22 alongside Sebastian Ingrosso. The new night (dubbed Swedish House Mafia: Mondays) is Pacha’s major new event, and sees the Swedish DJs happily taking on Sven Vath (Amnesia) and Tiesto (Privilege). “I wanted the Swedes for Pacha because I believe in them, I think they are the freshest thing happening in house music and see them as a major part of the scene for the next 10 years,” he explained.
“I initially spoke to them about other nights of the week but they came back and specifically asked for Mondays. When I pointed out to them Monday was a tough night with Tiesto and Sven they said they didn’t care, they feel what they do is totally different to what Sven and Tiesto do. I admire that in them; they don’t concern themselves with what other people are doing they just get on and do what they do best,” Danny continued. “I have to say Monday may be a tough night but I see this event as going on to become one of the best parties in the world over the next year or two. They’ve chosen to make this about putting on a show, the production being as important as their music, and that shows a real level of care and thought for their fans – you’ve got to admire that,” he added.
David Guetta continues to present his F**k Me, I’m Famous parties every Thursday, Fedde Le Grand takes over Tuesdays and Defected switch to Saturdays, marking a radical line-up change for the overall season. “I think it was time for a change in Pacha which is what has happened, we have changed three nights with a view to planning for the next 3 to 5 years,” he explained. “We can’t just keep doing the same thing, Pacha has to keep presenting new stuff and not just staying in a comfort zone. I think our line-up this year is the best we have ever had,” he concluded.
