Having been something of a ‘free agent’ throughout his action-packed career up to this point, in-demand Canadian producer and live performer Deadmau5 has finally inked a deal with major record label Virgin.

Deadmau5, aka Joel Zimmerman, has released his music on a variety of independent labels, including his own Mau5trap Recordings imprint. His debut LP Random Album Title came out late last year through American dance label Ultra Recordings, and was distributed in the UK via Ministry of Sound.

The Deadmau5 deal with Virgin is far from your usual record deal, however, with reports indicating he’s signed a ‘360 agreement’ that will see the label share in profits from all aspects of his burgeoning career, including live performance/touring, recording, sponsorship, publishing and merchandise.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!

How is he a sell-out? I think you're all missing the point of what a sell out is...

i wouldnt say sellout... i would say he is trying to further his career......but as with alot of other artists,,,,signing to a major isnt always the right move.........you become a puppet!

i am guessing its cheaper to put out albums with a big label and all the expenses that goes with it, expect heaps of virgin artists(produced by deadmaus) commercial tracks in future.

What a foolish, foolish man. Everybody knows that 360s basically mean you can't wipe your arse without some bugger cyphening off their dirty cut of your hard work. Why the f^

Yes 360 deals are the new thing at the moment and seems lots of bands are being fucked by them. I haven't heard of any electronic producers signing them. I don't get why people sign these? In any case he hasn't sold out. To sell out means you have a dram

you know with this recession on, anyone would be a fool not to take an offer like this. Good on Him... now he can focus on making music and touring rather than every other aspect of the Business. I'm sure he won't lose any sleep over a few people calling

Good work. Dont know why everyone is saying "sellout" though. As long as he is free to create the music he wishes im sure it will be a very good deal for hima and the rest of the industry!

Sell out? unless his tunes start turning into some cheesy poppy "dance" than he's not a sell-out. its gonna help him out they dont take their cut of everything for nothing he should be able to spend more time creating rockin tunes and keepin dance floors

you can't label someone a sellout based on one action to further his career.... sheep. Virgin has always been one of the better 'big labels' as far as encouraging originality goes.

I can't understand how some people can change their perception of one of the best Djs/Producers around at present from signing a new deal to further his career... You should be banned from listening to good music
