Dizzee Rascal; "I used to hate house music"

Having scaled the top of the UK charts in 2008 with his Calvin Harris collaboration Dance Wiv Me it’s clear that much hyped rapper Dizzee Rascal has developed a taste for the good life, nabbing the second #1 position of his career this week with his latest single Bonkers.

Similarly to his last release, Bonkers sees Dizzee treading the line between house music and his preferred style of grime, but it seems he wasn’t always so open to the faster tempo of dance music. “I used to hate house music,” Rascal told UK newspaper The Sun recently. “I really hated pop, but I get it now. The new album is a definite move away from grime for me. I can’t get any more hardcore than I was.”

On Bonkers Dizzee teams up with NYC house aficionado Armand Van Helden, who is about to touch down in Australia for a whirlwind run of dates across the first weekend in June. The resulting production is a fidgeting electro house stormer that’s sure to devastate dancefloors the world over, including down under when Armand visits next week. “Armand just emailed me the track entirely out of the blue,” Dizzee explained. “I had it for ages before I did anything with it.”

You can check out the film clip below, and don’t forget to pencil Armand’s June tour into your calendar!

Sat Jun 6 – We Love Sounds, Sydney
Sun Jun 7 – Warehouse Festival, Canberra
Sun Jun 7 – Winter Sound System, Melbourne
Mon Jun 8 – We Love Sounds, Adelaide

This is a terrible sign of what's to come then. Maths English was a fantastic album that infused grime with house and electro, but if he wants to do a Kanye and start moving away from hip-hop altogether its just gonna be good productions with boring rep

Big claim- care to explain how Boy In Da Corner didn't fall under the category of hip hop? He did have a career before Calvin Harris switched on your anti-pop alarm.
