In what is becoming an increasingly alarming trend of giving faded music stars their own shoddy reality television shows – and even current artists like our own Stafford Brothers -, it’s been announced that members of seminal R&B groups Salt ‘n’ Pepa and TLC will be getting their own programs. Because that makes perfect sense, yeah?
One third of ‘90s sensations TLC, Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas will have her own show that follows the former star’s quest to find love. We imagine it’ll be a fairly loose take on the current glut of dating-shows, and we can almost guarantee that potential suitors will be eliminated with a line like “Sorry, you just a scrub, and I don’t want no scrubs!”
Meanwhile, Sandra ‘Pepa’ Denton of the pioneering Salt ‘n’ Pepa will have a similar show in attempts to reverse the singer’s love life dilemmas. In what shouldn’t come as a big surprise, Pepa is no stranger to the reality TV realm, having notched up credits in VH1’s celebrity-clusterfuck The Surreal Life as well as The Salt-n-Pepa Show which, despite its premise of capturing Salt ‘n’ Pepa’s reunion, we somehow missed. Bummer.
With the rate these cheeseball shows seem to be turned out, we can only wonder what’s coming next for reality TV. How long will it be before good ol’ Rick Astley has his own Punk’d-style show where he goes around publically Rickrolling unsuspecting citizens? Or better yet, a lifestyle show called Retro Eye For The Normal Guy, where the remaining members of A Flock Of Seagulls do a drastic, neon-clad makeover of some plain accountant dude. Now that’s entertainment!
