Warp Records, aka one of the most enduring record labels in electronic music, turned 20 this year and to celebrate that milestone the lauded label are releasing an enormous compilation of all things Warp-related, entitled Warp20.
Of course, with 20 years of material under their belts, Warp always had their work cut out for them when putting together the package, but thankfully, the creative folks over there have given it the rich, high-quality treatment that such an occasion so surely warrants. The box set comes loaded with more material than you could shake an IDM-loving stick at, with five CDs, five vinyls and an extra-large booklet featuring artwork from every Warp release ever. Huge, right?
The box set gets even better once you have a look at the tracklistings for each specific section of the package. Warp20 (Chosen) features two CDs worth of classic Warp tracks, selected firstly by fans online and secondly by Warp co-founder Steve Beckett, Warp20 (Recreated) is another two disc set consisting of Warp artists covering each other (including Pivot doing Grizzly Bear, Tim Exile covering Jamie Lidell and Leila reworking Aphex Twin), Warp20 (Unheard) has a pile of unreleased treats spread across three 10” records, whilst Warp20 (Elemental) is a mixed and mashed affair from Osymyso and Warp20 (Infinite) is a collection of solid groove loops from Warp tracks.
Check out the tracklisting below for (Chosen), (Recreated) and (Unheard) courtesy of Pitchfork and hold out for more details on the box set’s release soon.
